    Fourth of July retreat

    By: Trip Date: 07/03/2019

We loved our stay here. The location is just amazing – very private and a large piece of land with access to the river. We spent a lot of time walking down to the river and looking for crawfish. We even tried fly fishing although we didn’t have any luck 🙂 The Savage River Reservoir is right down the road, so we rented kayaks from the nearby convenience store and spent two days out on the water, where we caught perch and smallmouth, and saw a bald eagle flying low over the water. Deep Creek Lake was about 40 minutes away which was also great. Overall, we’ll be back for the location alone! The cabin is small and has no AC so we stayed outside most of the time, and luckily it would cool down enough at night to sleep comfortably. There’s a lot of wildlife here, we saw a doe and her fawn, a bobcat, a black bear, turkeys, and tons of rabbits. We had a very good time disconnecting and relaxing. Thanks for a great place!

So very cool that you got to enjoy our area and our wildlife! It is always a treat for us when our guests get visitors from nature! Certainly there are great outdoor areas to explore; however nature isn’t always so forthright! So, so great! Indeed the lack of AC worries some folks but we let them know that it gets in the 50’s, and even the 40’s during the summer at night. Awesome sleeping weather. Thanks for being our guest and we look forward to hosting you again on your next visit!

Small, but cozy, place in a very scenic area. Amazingly beautiful area, really. Quite enjoyed our stay as well. There were a few bugs and small spiders inside but that’s probably because they just opened the place for the season, we cleaned them up and we were fine. Besides that, I’d go back again!

    Response Management company:
Thanks for enjoying the cottage and taking such good care of the cottage. We look forward to hosting you again on your next visit!

-Great cottage for the value – River access and open land is what makes this place special. -Pet friendly is a bonus! – Bring own sheets, towels and extra blankets. -May want to bring a large pan for cooking( if more than 2 people) and bring paper/plastic products -Very quiet, very secluded -Great location for fishing and hiking!

    Response from Owner:
Thanks for being our guest at the Savage River Cottage and we agree that the setting rocks! We continue to try to make little improvements (some new items delivered just this past week!) but we know that we cannot improve on the best amenity – the awesome setting and river access! Thanks for being our guest and we look forward to your next visit!

    endless hours at the river

Overall, we enjoyed this stay at Tina and Bob’s. I’ve camped in the area surrounding the house for the better part of the last 34 years. Instead of “roughing it” this time, my family and I decided to try out this place. It needs some general updating (the bathroom surround walls are peeling), but it was just as expected. My family of four (me, my wife, a 3 year old, and a 4 month old) were able to fit just fine. Previous commenters mentioned the need to bring your own utensils, silverware, and kitchen equipment but I didn’t see the need for that. We brought our own food prep knives but that was the extent of what was necessary. One thing that one should probably bring is a fan — the air flow in the cabin was not that great and it got quite hot. A standard box fan (which I picked up from Walmart) was critical to sleeping through the night. The 1000 ft. walk to the river was great as well — where my son and I spent endless hours throwing rocks and crossing the stream. For a carefree weekend, I’d definitely recommend staying here.

    retro camp from the 60’s

Think of this rental as a step up from a bunk house or a retro camp from the 60’s or 70’s. Best if considered a home base for outdoor activities in the Savage River area.-I complemented the owners that the cottage is a modest dwelling placed in a million dollar landscape.

    off the grid and beautiful

You are off the grid here. The savage river is docile until it rains and then you get a nice rapid flow. It is nice to be so close to the river. My wife and I and our two dogs walked all over the mountains in the surrounding state parks. We went to swallow falls and saw all the waterfalls in that area. Very beautiful.

    Response from Owner:
Thank you so much for being our guest and enjoying the wonderful natural attractions in our area!
